Laptops default to sleeping when the lid shuts or when idle. A Deep Scan that runs for hours can be cut off when Windows suspends USB root hubs or spins down external disks.
Plug into AC, set a temporary high-performance or “never sleep” plan for the session, and disable sleep on lid close if you must walk away. Revert afterward so you do not bake extra fan noise or power draw into daily use.
External disks
- Some enclosures spin down independently of Windows; wiggle the mouse or touch a small file read occasionally only if you know it is safe for your hardware.
- If the scan restarts from zero after wake, note whether the drive remounted with a new letter; pick the destination folder again before you queue files.
